The Macau European Chamber of Commerce (“MECC”), dedicated to promote economic ties between Macau and Europe, paid a visit last 10 October to Mr. Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macau SAR.
The objective of the visit by the MECC to the Secretary’s Office was to address the needs and challenges of the European businesses here in Macau, and to have an open dialogue with the MSAR Government.
During the meeting, MECC conveyed to the Secretary it’s availability to cooperate with the Government in the economic development of Macau, and provide feedback from its members to seek harmonious diversification of the economy. MECC also expressed the interests and challenges faced by European businesses in Macau, namely attracting international holdings to expand their businesses in Macau; and certain limitations of the blue card scheme that are a challenge to local businesses.
Secretary Lei replied that it’s important to build and maintain the relationship with the European business community, as there’s a need for market diversification, and Macau will benefit with the expertise of the European companies. Secretary Lei mentioned that the Macau SAR Government is open for exchanging opinions, and there’s a need for more promotion in order to attract and bring new businesses to Macau.
Macau government officials received the MECC included the Honorable Mr. Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macau SAR; Ms. Ku Mei Leng, Chief of the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance; Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director for Labour Affairs Bureau of Macau SAR, Mr. Chan Un Tong, Deputy Director for Labour Affairs Bureau of Macau SAR; and Mr. Simon Vong, Executive Director for Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute.
The visit was made by the President of the Board of Directors, Mr. Rui Pedro Cunha; Vice Presidents – Mr. Carlos Álvares, Mr. Niall Murray, and Mr. Rutger Verschuren; Treasurer – Mr. Keith Buckley; and representative of the Germany Macau Chamber of Commerce – Mr. Ricky Un.
