(Macau, 4 July 2022) The Macau European Chamber of Commerce (“MECC”) at an Extraordinary General Assembly that took place on May 10th, elected Mr. Rui Pedro Cunha as President of its Board of Directors – starting July 1st, Mr. Cunha will succeed Mr. Henry Brockman, who led the Chamber since October 2021.
The current term will complete in October 2023.
Mr. Jeffrey Ho Wai Ip was also elected as Vice President of the Board of Directors, replacing his father, Mr. Lino Ho Weng Cheong, one of the founding Members of MECC and President of the Board of Directors of the Macao Romania Chamber of Commerce.
“It has been my honor to lead MECC for the past year, and I am therefore delighted to propose Mr. Rui Pedro Cunha as my co-opted replacement for the remainder of the two-year term. I have every confidence that Rui Pedro will adroitly handle MECC affairs and find new ways to lead MECC successfully. I thank him for accepting this challenge. And, again, thanks to Dr. Carlos Simões as president and to all other governing body members, whose two-year term came to a successful conclusion in October 2021,” Mr. Brockman said.
Speaking about his new role, Mr. Cunha (General Manager of C&C Lawyers) stated: “I appreciate and thank the MECC members for entrusting me with the challenge of leading the chamber for the remainder of the current term. Mr. Henry Brockman’s dynamic leadership will be a tough act to follow.”
Looking forward, the current economic situation in Macau and the world will continue to be a challenge for both local and European companies, so it will be ever so important to promote good communication and understanding for mutual benefit. MECC can play a role in the cooperation between the local national chambers to explore the opportunities of Hengqin and integration in the Greater Bay Area, in a way that is beneficial to the development of Macau. I look forward to exchanging ideas and working together towards this goal.”
