On 19 October, the Macau European Chamber of Commerce announced at the Annual General Assembly Meeting that, Mr. Henry Simon Brockman was elected as President of its Board of Directors for the term 2021 to 2023. Mr. Brockman is with SJM Resorts, S.A., and will succeed Mr. Carlos Duque Simões of DSL Lawyers, who has led the Chamber from 2019 to 2021.
“It was an honour to lead MECC for the last two years, a mandate marked by the COVID pandemic and its impact on the local economy and companies, being able to function and serve, as well as show resilience and flexibility. I’d also like to praise the involvement and contribution of MECC members, as well as the long-standing support of the Macau government”, Mr. Simões said.
Speaking about his new role, Mr. Brockman stated: “It will be a privilege to serve as President and work with our stakeholders to take MECC’s mission forward.
I would like to express my appreciation to the institutions and people who underpin the recognition given to MECC and its success: to the government of the Macau SAR; to both the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macau SAR; to Dr. Ambrose So, Consul General Paulo Cunha Alves, and EU Office Head Thomas Gnocchi, each as Honorary Chairman of MECC; to MECC’s members; to our event sponsors; and not least to Dr. Carlos Simoes who has guided us through the challenges of the past two years.
Looking ahead, I would highlight three main areas of activity: continued acknowledgement of government and governance bodies for their support; helping members to gain recognition for their contributions to Macau’s economy and society; and opening doors to new opportunities, whether as part of Macau’s second Five Year Plan, through Greater Bay Area integration, or via Europe-Macau cooperation and investment.”
Dr. Simões will take on a new role as President of the General Assembly of MECC, Mr. Dalibor Vodeničarski becomes Vice-President thereof, and Mr. Jeremy Artan de Saint Martin becomes Secretary.
Mr. Chui Sai Cheong will continue as President of the Supervisory Board of MECC, while Mr. Filipe Cunha Santos is promoted to Vice President, and Dr. Ivano Poma becomes Secretary.
Other appointments of MECC’s governing bodies include two new members to the Board of Directors, namely Mr. Rutger Verschuren and Mr. Daniel Beitler, who are appointed Vice-President and Secretary respectively. Mr. Niall Murray, Mr. Lino Ho, Mr. Bernie Leong and Mr. Carlos Alvares remain as Vice-Presidents. Mr. Tony Un and Mr. Andrew Evans stay as Executive Vice President and Treasurer, respectively.
Prof. Kevin Thompson is appointed as the Ambassador of MECC, where he will be representing various business fields in raising their interests and needs to the Chamber. Prof. Thompson will help in building positive relationship with business partners, consular representatives, as well as Government departments. Foreign affairs related issues will be also led by Prof. Thompson.
